Meet The Huracan Foundation’s Five New Project Leaders
At The Huracan Foundation, we believe in the power of football to inspire, empower, and create lasting social change. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce five incredible new Project Leaders, each bringing a unique vision and deep commitment to using football as a tool for education and empowerment.
From Kenya to Portugal, India to Peru, and Uganda, these leaders are tackling issues such as gender inequality, youth empowerment, emotional resilience, and community development—one game at a time.
Let’s meet them!
Collins Otieno – Huracán FC Mukuru Nairobi (Kenya)
With a background in biochemistry and education, Collins Otieno combines his academic expertise with his passion for football to transform young lives in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, an urban slum in Nairobi.
Growing up in a village in Western Kenya, Collins personally experienced the challenges of limited resources. A single synthetic ball gifted to him as a child changed his life forever—an experience that inspired him to give back through Mukuru Shujaa, a non-profit that provides football training, family festivals, and life-skills mentorship.
As the founder of Huracan FC Mukuru Nairobi, Collins creates safe spaces where children develop football skills, improve their well-being, and build leadership resilience.
"A ball changed my life. Now, I use football to empower children, showing them that education, leadership, and teamwork can transform their futures."
Vaishnavi Nandkumar – Huracán FC Muheem (India)
Vaishnavi Nandkumar is a leader dedicated to empowering rural communities in Uttar Pradesh, India through education and leadership. With a background in economics and experience as a Teach For India Fellow, she has seen firsthand the impact of consistency and love in creating change.
Her project, Huracan FC Muheem, is focused on uplifting young girls aged 8 to 18 from historically oppressed communities, including the Musahars and Dalits, who face systemic discrimination. Through football, Vaishnavi is building confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills—helping these girls break barriers and challenge societal norms.
"Football is more than just a game here; it’s a vehicle for empowerment and social transformation. We’re not just building athletes—we’re nurturing future leaders."
Brando Boza – Huracán FC Lareñitas (Peru)
Brando Boza is a student, teacher, and advocate for existential leadership, believing that education should embrace diverse ways of living and thinking. As a Teach for Peru Fellow, Brando has led various initiatives spanning agriculture, artificial intelligence, and now football.
Through Huracan FC Lareñitas, Brando is empowering young girls (ages 12–13) in Laramarca District, helping them develop leadership skills and navigate personal challenges. His project works to transform education through football, ensuring these young girls gain confidence, independence, and a sense of purpose.
"You don’t need to be the president of your country to transform it."
Carol Seera – Huracán FC M-LISADA (Uganda)
Carol Seera is a teacher, literacy advocate, and passionate leader in Uganda. A Teach for Uganda Fellow and Distinguished Fellow Award recipient, she co-founded Literacy Beyond Boundaries, an initiative providing reading materials and teacher mentorship for underprivileged children.
Now, as the leader of Huracan FC M-LISADA, Carol integrates football and emotional stability sessions at M-LISADA Passion Primary School. Her vision is to support 500+ children across multiple schools, ensuring 90% student participation and organising competitive football matches to build teamwork and resilience.
"Football is more than a game; it’s a powerful tool for healing, empowerment, and education."
Letícia Cordeiro Brito – Huracán FC Panteras (Portugal)
Originally from Brazil, Letícia Cordeiro Brito moved to Portugal to pursue a Master’s in Innovation in Education at the University of Lisbon. Her work at Escola Básica do Vale da Amoreira (EBVA) has led to the creation of Huracan FC Panteras, a multicultural football team representing students from Portugal, Cape Verde, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé, Brazil, Mozambique, and Senegal.
Beyond football, Letícia’s initiative focuses on gender equality, menstrual health education, and citizenship, inviting boys to become allies in breaking barriers. Her project tackles violence, racism, and cultural divides, using football as a tool to unite and empower communities.
"Football is just the beginning. Here, we are building a community rooted in equality and friendship."
A Bright Future
Each of these five leaders represents the heart of The Huracan Foundation, using football as a force for good. From Kenya’s urban slums to rural India, from Peru’s mountains to Uganda’s schools, and Portugal’s multicultural communities, their work is shaping the next generation of leaders.
We are incredibly excited to support, celebrate, and learn from these incredible project leaders.
