In 2009, The Huracan Foundation founder Henry May formed a Sunday league team in London with a group of his friends - what has happened since the formation of that team has been rather remarkable.
The team, named in honour of his adopted Argentine football team, Club Atlético Huracán, whom he'd begun to support while studying English in South America, would garner media attention across the globe in the following few years, creating its own fanbase in Argentina and travelling to South America to play exhibition matches.
"When we came back to London we decided that we should do something more with this incredible story we have of fans from Argentina and a club from London. So we decided to create The Huracan Foundation to support projects around the world that were using football to transform education in their communities."
Since then, The Huracan Foundation has supported projects led by teachers from the Teach For All network - who are working in underprivileged communities across the globe.
Projects are delivered primarily overseas, but also in the UK. They use the power of football to:
Improve children’s education (both inside and outside of the classrooms
Create social change (such as reducing teenage pregnancies, improving opportunities for girls and steering children away from drugs, alcohol and local gangs)
We support our Project Leaders by providing funding, kit and equipment, mentoring and access both to our global network and to The Huracan Foundation Academy (an online training programme for Football For Good project leaders)
About Teach For All - TFA: is a global network of 60 independent partner organizations. Partners and their teachers and alumni can share ideas and innovations across borders and adapt promising ideas in their own countries, delivering educational projects.
