New Season, new Kit

At the beginning of this year we received two very generous donations of used kit from Fernhurst Football Club and London Seaward FC which have now been sent to our projects in Uganda, giving more children the opportunity to get involved in our projects. We are hugely grateful to our Trustees and supporters who facilitated these donations.

These donations were particularly timely for Charles Obore, Project Leader, Huracan FC Teso Uganda and his coaching team as they build on the success of their project in 2021, and plan to expand their reach, doubling the number of schools that they work with in the coming months.

A donation of football tops and shorts from Fernhurst Junior Football Club – and their sponsors Saltus, Bramdean Construction, Lumi Global, and Lower Lodge Candles - ensured that a large number of Charles’ keen youngsters who otherwise would not have had access to the right kit and would not have been able to play, have been able to join the project.

These new tops have most definitely put a smile on the players faces and the note of thanks below from Charles most definitely put a smile on our faces too.

"The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a thousand heads bowing in prayer.

We started our football training this season with a lot of uncertainties mostly on how to get equipment to cover all the growing numbers of participants which has now reached 242.

Thank you Fernhurst for the amazing equipment that you offered us, this has gone a long way in changing the training sessions of our Under 14 girls teams. They have previously been struggling to train in skirts but now have a chance of being organised players.

"It has become easier to dodge, dribble and score goals when I’m wearing sports kit. I feel confident with the ball" says Apule Jane the Under 14 girls team Captain.

We deeply thank Fernhurst for the generous donation and The Huracan Foundation for making all this happen.”

And with an additional very kind donation of unused kit from the players at London Seaward FC, Charles is well on the way to ensuring that all the girls who need it have kit to play in.

Hayley Barton, a London Seaward FC player and Huracan Foundation trustee, is all too aware how hard it is to come by second hand kit especially for girls. So at the very end of 2021 she kindly rallied around the current team members and also got in touch with the former players to ask if they would be happy to donate any kit that they no longer use. And so at the beginning of this year, Charles received three 20kg boxes jammed packed full of London Seaward FC playing kit, training kit, shirts, shorts, socks and even coaching tops for the coaches.

Charles, his fellow coaches and volunteers and the children could not be more grateful.

"With gratitude someone somewhere in London was taking a kind thought about us, and through The Huracan Foundation we deeply want to thank London Seaward FC who gifted us with football jerseys which have not only professionalized our training with most of the players having training kits,  aroused interest of more players to join and super energized our players to work hard both in class and in the field because "we can't afford to loose with this kind of amazing equipment".

Our team's respect and trust from the community has been amplified by this equipment, it has opened the eyes of our players and coaches that we can aim for the best, work for the best and be the best if we use the gifts that others offer in the right way.

Thank you London Seaward FC for growing our interest, shaping our mission, igniting someone's dream and for making us think beyond our imaginations.

You have dressed us like an English premier league team and we won't take that for granted. Thank you for lifting us high and giving us a mark to live above.

We are looking forward to hosting both London Seaward and Fernhurst Football Club in Uganda at some point."
