Huracan FC Castilla

Summary

We seek to reduce school violence by promoting a peaceful and respectful environment among students through football, and to encourage reading through the School Library. In this way, the school culture will be transformed into a safe, valued and motivating space, both in sport and academics.

Child case

Name: Carlos Bazan Sernaque

Age: 15 years old

Background: Carlos Bazan Sernaque actively participates in the training sessions of the U16 category, dedicating four hours a week to perfect his skills. As a defender, he stands out for his strong temperament, but this same character often led him to lose control, which generated conflicts with his teammates and even being expelled from matches due to his fits of anger.

Project Impact: Carlos, who grew up in a violent and impoverished environment, displayed aggressive behaviour and disinterest in his studies, earning him a reputation for conflict. However, in the last five months, his participation in a project has brought about a remarkable change. Through training, social-emotional skills workshops and the support of his Project Leader, Carlos has learned to manage his emotions, controlling his temper and becoming a leader in several areas, and is now the Captain of his category. The project has transformed his life, teaching him to resolve conflicts without violence and regaining the trust and affection of his classmates and teachers. Carlos, once known for his aggressiveness, is now an example of self-improvement and leadership, demonstrating that with the right support, it is possible to turn difficulties into strengths. His story is a clear demonstration that change is possible with dedication and guidance.

José Lopez, project leader of Huracan FC Castilla

“I feel happy and empowered as a project leader, recognising myself as a good manager of social projects. In the last six months, I have significantly improved my communication skills, which has been crucial to manage large groups of young people in football training and in the reading club.”
